Round Robin
Lisa Johnson

I have set up a chat room to be used for the discussion of musical instruments and music styles and tastes with a special emphasis on the mountain dulcimer. Players of any instruments are welcome to use it. Feel free to make appointments with your musical friends to chat in the room, though others may come and go during your chat. Please also feel free to announce on the dulcimer e-mail lists if you want to plan a chat with a time and a subject in mind, such as "Favorite Tunes at Jams in Different Geographic Areas" or "Handy Things to Bring to Festivals or Workshops." You may want to have a meeting of your dulcimer club, meet with your band-mates, or arrange a time to debrief with friends you have met at a festival. It is also a great place to continue detailed conversations which have begun on-list at Sweet Music Digest.

Chat rooms are best utilized if people set up specific times to meet there (remember to mention your time zone when setting a time to chat with others). It is common to find an empty room much of the time if you just drop in to check to see if anyone is there.  But you may get lucky and find a fellow player there too! I hope folks will use and enjoy it....It's your meeting room!

Here is the address:
http://www.tri-millenia.net/herbalcandy/DulcimerChat.htm (Remember it takes a minute to load the first time.)

This chat room enables 2 to 25 people to type back and forth live and carry on a conversation. You do not need any special downloads or software to chat in it, you only need a fairly current browser that is java-enabled, like most now are. (A few MacIntosh users may experience difficulties.) Just pick a uncommon nickname and connect to see if anyone else is there. You cannot see if anyone is in the room unless you log in and connect. There may be an empty room with just you there waiting. If there is some one else there, you type your message in the bottom window and then press ENTER on your keyboard to send it. Read the help buttons to learn how to set audio beeps to alert you when someone else comes on, float the window so you can do other surfing meanwhile, etc. The chat software will disconnect you if you remain idle for more than a few minutes.

Lisa Johnson is businesswoman who plays mountain dulcimer and mandolin. Do you have comments or questions about the chat room? Contact Ms. Johnson directly by e-mail. To learn more about her, see the Contributors section of Sweet Music Index.
